Course description

Objectives and Content

Stress and deformation, elastic properties, plane and spherical waves, anisotropy and attenuation, reflection and transmission at plane boundaries, layered media, surface waves, diffraction, elements of ray theory as well as applications within seismics and seismology.

Learning Outcomes

To provide students with a basis for further studies in seismic modelling/inversion and/or quantitative seismology.

The grading scale used is A to F. Grade A is the highest passing grade in the grading scale, grade F is a fail.
