Learning Outcomes

The course aims to improve students' knowledge and understanding of British literature and culture and to enable them to express themselves clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, on issues related to literature and culture.

ENG125 provides an introduction to literature in English, and some ways in which it is studied with an emphasis on British literature and key themes in British cultural and social life.

The course comprises a selection of representative texts, authors and movements in literatures in English (poetry, prose and drama) from the Shakespearean age to the present. It also covers key themes from British cultural and social life, with a particular emphasis on the post-war period.
