Objectives and Content
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
After successfully completing this course, students will have:
- Basic knowledge of Old Norse mythology
- Basic knowledge of the mythology in Snorra-Edda
- A clear understanding of the mythological content in a selection of sagas.
Abilities
- The ability to comment on and analyse Snorra-Edda in translation.
- The ability to place the texts in a religious and historical context
General Competence
- The ability to understand mythological structures in general
- Basic knowledge of scientific methods in the study of religion.

Compulsory Assignments and Attendance
1) Obligatory attendance at least 75% of the scheduled lectures.
2) If the student, in consultation with the lecturer, sets up an alternative syllabus to the standard one, the student must hand in and have the syllabus list approved within the advertised deadline.
The compulsory requirements are valid for the given semester.
Forms of Assessment
Written examination of four hours.
It is permitted to write in Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Icelandic, English or German.
